some help tackling this problem. what will it take to stop violence in oakland? only two weeks into the new year that are have already been 6 homicides. friday alone four were shot and killed and 11 more shootings over the weekend. the latest victims are just teenagers. the violence in the city is out of control and officials want a state of emergency. >> i think a state of emergency and also to call outreach out to over law enforcement, if it's the u.s. marshals, sheriff's, state police, that's what oakland needs to immediately to be able to deal with this crime. >> reporter: violent crime is up 23% in oakland. last year there were 131 homicides, the most in six years. police say the majority of the most recent violence is between feuding groups retaliating against one another using guns. witnesses to a shooting last night on seminary drive said they heard the sound of high- powered weapons. >> heard about 6 to 12 shots, they were loud. they seemed close. >> reporter: people who live and work in oakland have had enough and want a plan of action. >> we are calling for the mayor and

, still cool. 50 oakland. 48 santa rosa. 51 san jose. high pressure holding on for another day bringing that hazy sunshine. the energy from this next storm system staying well to the north seeing a couple of passing clouds so staying dry for another day. then over the weekend a couple of chances of rain. in the meantime across the state 50s into the central valley, high country lots of snow up there. snow running about 134% of normal. around the bay area today, lots of temperatures in the upper 50s into the south bay. 57 degrees in san mateo. 58 san jose. 56 hayward. east bay temperatures cooler but not bad. mainly into the mid-50s there. and inside the bay, we'll keep you up to 58 in oakland. about 56 in san francisco. and 56 degrees in santa rosa. tonight, yup, it is going to be back to the deep freeze about 28 degrees in santa rosa, 29 -- i should say 29 in santa rosa, 28 in napa, and looking out over the next couple of days, we'll see temperatures staying similar but over the weekends clouds roll back in. a chance of rain developing by saturday night into sunday. dry weathe

. temperatures this afternoon about 56 degrees in san jose. about 54 in livermore, 57 in oakland and about 55 degrees in san francisco. overnight lows will be chilly in spots around freezing there in santa rosa at about 32, 33 degrees in the napa valley and 39 degrees in oakland. of course, we had some 20s this morning so not as cold but still chilly early on. over the next couple of days, high pressure building in. tomorrow we should begin to see some more 60s showing up outside. i think some spring-like temperatures maybe some mid-60s through thursday and friday. and right now, at least the next five to seven days, look dry but on the long-range computer models i think toward the end of next week, a major change in the pattern again. this is pretty typical. we get a dry spell in the middle of winter and then right back into it. winter comes roaring back into the bay area. >> we'll just savor the next week then. i need to get my kids outside to go to the park. >> what are you doing? >> she's working. >> keeping them inside. out there now, comfortable temperatures into the afternoon, 60 oakland, 59 livermore and 59 degrees in san francisco. 55 in san jose. this big dome of high pressure continues to sit across the bay area and along the west coast here, that remains in control for the weekend. it will bring the temperatures above average for today. probably right through the weekend. and sending any chance of rain well north of the bay area. that is likely going to change though as we head toward the middle of the next week. maybe we start to talk about rain. well, the waves picking up along the coastline, storms in the pacific so watching for swells, a high surf advisory along the coastline, some of the waves 20 feet. >>> around the bay area 65 in san jose and palo alto and 66 redwood city, east bay temperatures 60s in many spots. inside the bay looking good, hazy sunshine, 63 oakland, 62 degrees in san francisco. and about 63 degrees in santa rosa. >>> overnight lows still chilly in spots. you will see about 29 degrees, one of the colder spots fairfield, freezing santa rosa 32, but san francisco, pacific

50s across the board. 57 in san francisco. 57 also in oakland. and 55 degrees in concord. so here's the low that we're talking about off the coastline. it's retrograding, moving back away from the coast, at the same time you see all that moisture sweeping back up into the sky so that's going to keep things unsettled probably today and maybe into tomorrow morning, as well. something to watch out for. so that low spins off the coastline, you finally got another front off here that will eventually kick this system east. but in the meantime it will be unsettled and wet, so keep the umbrella handy. it won't be a huge storm that's racing across the bay area. computer models showing you scattered showers coming up in the south, somewhat unusual. those will continue into the evening hours and then overnight tonight, and it even continues with a chance of some showers into tomorrow morning. but just some lighter amounts of rainfall, kind of some nuisance rainfall out there, so it looks like things staying unsettled here and around the state. maybe some more showers in the sierra nevada, as w

now, you'll see what's going on. 47 in oakland. still seeing low 40s up in the north bay. napa, fairfield. wait until the overnight hours. we've got the new freeze advisory, freeze warnings and frost advisories from 2:00 to 8:00 tomorrow morning. same time we saw it this morning, could even get cooler. it kind of all depends on the winds. this morning, a lot of wind gusts picked up, so we didn't see temperatures quite as cool as initially forecasted. but we could see unseasonably cool temperatures. your pets, pipes protected for tomorrow. hopefully more clouds clear out and be a i believe toe see more sunshine. partly cloudy skies. the unsettled weather with the cool front is moving farther southeast, but cool temperatures is what we've been dealing with. we'll deal with it for the next few mornings. we're watching unsettled weather, but off to the coast and not expecting moisture to hit the ground. for saturday around game time, looks like things, as you can see, remain pretty dry across the bay area. no need for any umbrellas. temperatures squeezing out into the low 50s. we'v

into oakland. as you head further to the north, it is still chilly in spots. 49 in the napa valley, 49 vallejo and 50 degrees in antioch. i think we are seeing high pressure stick around and that ridge is sending the storm track well to the north of the bay area so we'll keep dry an high outside and the temperatures cool, as well. 50s into the central valley, the high country going to be in the 30s and also into the 40s. i think if you are traveling around the bay area today, not a bad idea to grab a jacket out the door. some of the warmer temperatures in the south bay in the upper 50s. 57 in half moon bay, as well. low 50s in the east bay. inside the bay temperatures moderate a bit mid-50s in oakland, 53 degrees in san francisco. tonight cold, 20s and 30s inland so get ready for ice again. it's going to be a cold start to the morning. toward the weekend clouds begin to gather, slight chance of showers on sunday but looks fairly dry for the next couple of weeks. >> you gave a little shoutout. we have some boy scouts in the studio today. i think we can actually show them to you. wave, h
